Consumer Network needs volunteers to provide information about consumer issues

The Scottish Consumer Council (SCC) is looking to recruit volunteers from all over Scotland to join its Consumer Network.   The Scottish Consumer Council works to represent consumer interests to policy-makers, regulators and suppliers, researching the experiences of consumers and identifying ways in which the provision of goods and services can be improved for everyone, not just for those who can exercise financial ‘muscle’. In all our work we have a special remit to represent the interests of disadvantaged consumers.

The Consumer Network is a group of volunteers who help to keep us informed about the issues that concern ordinary consumers throughout Scotland.  We have over 100 individual members, and we also have 6 member groups.  We ask our volunteers to send us information three times a year about any problems they face in their day-to-day lives, or things that affect their local community.

From time to time we also ask our volunteers to help with research projects as part of the ongoing work of SCC.  Recently, volunteers have given their opinions on the length of time health records may be kept, how easy it is to recycle in their area and some members also took part in a ‘mystery shopping exercise’ on public access to the Internet.  The time commitment is quite small, perhaps an hour or so every couple of months. There are no formal qualifications required and no barriers to eligibility.
