On 12 June 2004, a very special -- and specialised -- event took place at the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh. The first annual Job Opportunities Fair for Black and Minority Ethnic Communities brought together employers from the housing sector and a wide range of public sector organisations with people from Black and Minority Ethnic Communities.
The one-to-one interaction between these groups in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere was a unique and much needed opportunity to strike a significant blow to the barriers of discrimination that exist in Scotland’s employment landscape.
The event was extremely well attended and a huge success. Most importantly, it created a genuine enthusiasm from both attendees and exhibitors alike to continue and strengthen ties by taking a proactive approach to employment.
