JOB OPPORTUNITIES SUPPORT PROJECT
Breaking down barriers to employment within Edinburgh & Lothians.

Are you from BME communities? Would you like to improve your opportunities to gain employment within housing and the public sector? If yes then please read on.

The Job Opportunities Support Project is a new initiative managed by the Associations listed overleaf. It is aimed at reducing the communication and cultural gap between employers and BME communities. The project will help provide a liaison between BME communities and employers with the purpose of breaking down barriers to employment and career advancement.

A number of routes to employment can be explored with you such as, work placements and training for all age groups. You will be provided with confidential help, support and advice on:

• CV preparation
• the right places to search for jobs
• filling in job applications
• interview techniques
• contact with employers

You could benefit by:
• gaining a job
• building confidence
• placement experience
• training
• gaining new skills
• gaining an understanding of job opportunities

Making a Difference - Job Oppotunities Support Project (2006/09)
The Job Opportunities Support Project was developed in February 2006 by Trust, Hanover (Scotland) and Bield Housing Associations. The main purpose of the project was to increase access to job opportunities for BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) people in housing and the public sectors, within Edinburgh and Lothians. The Project has delivered benefits to the lives of many individuals, including improved skills, increased confidence and greater financial independence.

Changing Minds

Changing Minds to BME Employment
Trust, Hanover (Scotland) Bield Housing Associations in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Housing and Scottish Federation of Housing Associations held four annual job fairs targeted at Black & Minority Ethnic potential job applicants across Scotland.  The publications ‘Changing Minds’ and the ‘Good Practice Guide’ explores some key issues from the survey findings at these job fairs and sets out an agenda for change.

WORKING FOR THE ASSOCIATIONS
Trust, Hanover (Scotland) and Bield Housing Associations specialise in housing, care and support services for older people.  We are positively working to encourage job applications from people of Black and Minority Ethnic communities. 

We employ staff from a wide range of skills and backgrounds for the diverse employment opportunities within the Associations. Office Based Staff cover areas such as general administrative, housing, IT, finance, development, maintenance and human resources.  On-Site Staff at our housing developments provide direct services to tenants such as scheme managers, co-ordinators, support staff, care assistants, cleaners, cooks and more.
